I hear ya. I was really put off by how some members here began calling people greedy for not putting it up for everyone to download for free. I mean seriously, is $9.99 too much to ask?

And seeing as the whole file sharing thing is illegal, I did not take part in it. I also have some ideological issues that prevented me from posting my copy of the song, but trying to explain that to a bunch of rabid fans who think the band owes them something for free just isn't my thing.

You know, it's weird how everyone here is usually so cool about everything, yet turned so bitter over this issue.

You know.. we do
Do you steal if you download "Company C" because you don't own a phonograph? Or you can't buy the "Cheating at Solitaire" LP with the song because it's out of print, and some ebay dirtbags want to rip off?!
I am not the only one who owns alot of social d records twice or thrice. (3x WLWHWT, 3x MLM, 2x SL&RNR.. all LP and CD, all other LP + singles)
Yea but you're right, these things are no excuses to steal
So I delete the song and I will wait for a legit LP or CD copy..

Because I hate this itunes crap(!) I still believe it would be wrong for the future if this succeeds. I want a copy to touch, with cover art and notes.

DVD? Where? 50 to 100 bucks on ebay or what?

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial">Am I right in saying that you just told us that you steal thousands of songs and yet you're harping on us for wanting a copy of Maybellene without having to repurchase the entire cd which we already bought? Are you saying it's fine to steal... as long as you don't really care for the band that much? I'm sorry pally, but your arguement is complete bullshit.

I'm certainly one who is opposed on a personal level to downloading for free things that are otherwise available for purchase. However, I don't have an ipod (I have the infinitely superior Zune) or itunes software, so my hands are kinda tied if I want to hear the song. I thought about it and it'd be incredibly impractical to send Two-Bags, Brent, Ness, Charlie and McGough each a twenty cent check.

Ok so it sucks that Maybelline and DVD are only available when bought in certain packages, but that is how they are offered, whether it was the band or the management (which is pretty much one in the same) that decided to do this, it is how it is.

So the question is, are we stealing from the one thing that brings us together on this board?

Yea I have downloaded 1000's of songs, but I have always rationalized it away. Example, The band/singer is long dead, it's some mega group that makes millions, it's only one song and the rest suck and the excuses go on. Well as far as I can tell Social D doesn't fall under any of these rationalizations, so what do I say now?

In the past two weeks I have seen both the GH album, the Bonus track and the DVD all floating around by people on this board and many people acting like it is owed to them only because they hang out here and don't want to pay for the GH album, yet hey have no qualms about downloading it.

How many of you would sneak up to a friend and grab a buck out of the wallet he left on the counter? Would you grab something that Mike left sitting backstage? If Charlie's drum sticks were withing reach would you grab them and sneak them out of the gig?

Well that what is happening here. Like it or not we are taking something offered for sale by the band. The very band that we all profess or respect, admiration and love for. What does this make us.. untrustworthy friends, thieves, worse? Are we the very kind of person most of us would beat the shit out of if we found them sneaking around in our shit one day.

Don't like the GH and the idea of the various bonus items, well then don't buy it. But just because you don't like it, don't think it gives you the right to download it and listen to it without paying. Don't for a minute think that just because we sit around here and read this board and think we are superfans that somehow we are entitled to free stuff from the band.

Face it the idiot Arvil Lavinge fan boy down the street who buys GH CD has shown more support of the band by purchasing the CD than all of us who stand around here and bitch about how unfair we think it is.

Yea I downloaded the GH album and Maybelline when it was posted. But after reading some of the comments made around here and seeing the attitudes of those who felt they were owed something, and thinking how I'd like to be able to answer the band if I was asked by them about the GH album, I clicked on the purchase the album button in iTunes.

Well said lespaulplayer.
The white stripes did the same thing for itunes when they released ickey thump (itunes bonus track-album only). I wonder if their fans are having a conniption or are stealing or both.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial">I think there is a difference between having a bonus track on an album of new material to get people to listen to the whole thing instead of just the song they heard on the radio, and making fans that have bought everything you have ever recorded repurchase the same songs again to get one song.

I'm a sucker too, if there was anything from the band saying that these songs were rerecorded or remastered I might have been willing to buy the whole album as well. The only reason I think they might be new versions is from what I've read on here.

True. But if you pre-ordered the disc and album, the issue would be the same.
